Start here

There’s a distance between the life we expect and the one we actually live. I’ve spent a surprising amount of time figuring out what to do in between.

A life I didn’t plan. A story I’m still writing.

I’m Chris. I’ve led teams, cared for people, built things, started over, and accumulated enough unusual experiences to have a few opinions about how the world works.

Some of those opinions concern work and leadership. Others concern family, identity, culture, technology, or everyday situations that somehow become much more complicated than they should be.

What belongs here

Firsthand stories, considered opinions, a little dry humor, and room for the things that don’t have easy answers. Sometimes there’s something useful to take away. Sometimes there isn’t a clean lesson. I’m not going to manufacture one just to give a story a satisfying ending.

  • Life, Unwritten: personal experiences, memories, ordinary days, and unexpected turns.
  • Behind the Title: work, leadership, institutions, and identity beyond a job.
  • The Human Part: relationships, belonging, vulnerability, and human complexity.
  • Looking Sideways: culture, technology, entertainment, and everyday curiosities.

These are recurring subjects, not separate compartments. Life rarely respects those boundaries.

Where to begin

Find the newest writing on the home page, or follow whatever subject catches your attention. There isn’t a required reading order. I haven’t found one for the rest of life, either.
